Candle making and its history
During the education participants will be acquainted with the craft of candle making, tools and materials needed to make candles. Everybody will have a chance to make a candle out of natural bee wax and to hear the stories about candle history, traditions and customs. Master Justina Sinkevičiūtė Duration: 1 h. Candle making differently: Christmas, Easter, Midsummer Day, All Saints' Day, the Rounded Candle of Thunder, the Candle of Grief
Historically a candle is a huge part of the most important events of human life – a mediator of fortune telling and prayers, guardian from fire, protector from the darkness, accompanier of dying ones and blesser of newborns. During this education you have a chance to make a candle out of natural bee wax for your family or house while listening interesting stories about usage and magic of candles in the past, playing games and remembering the most important calendar holidays or family celebrations. Educations are held over the whole year and are associated with Christmas, Easter, Midsummer Day, All Saints' Day, family community (the Rounded Candle of Thunder) and the most important periods of human life (the Candle of Grief).
Candles are made in four different ways: soaking, pouring on the arc, wrapping and twisting.
The length of poured candle is about 33 cm, thickness 2-2,5 cm; soaked candle length about 15-17 cm, thickness 2-2,5 cm.
