Decorating Easter Eggs with Hot Wax
Master Ramutė Raciūtė During this class you will learn the process, traditions, and history of decorating eggs with hot wax in Lithuania. Since the old days people believed that Easter egg - margutis in Lithuanian - has magical powers. The oldest known eggs are dated back to 13th century. Wax patterns, symbols and colors have a specific meaning: sun - hope that this year will be sunny; stars - fields will be filled with light day and night; grass snakes - life will wake up in Spring; red color - life; green - waking nature; yellow - ripe corn; black - soil; blue - sky. Easter eggs kept at home were believed to save homestead from thunder. You can bring 2-4 boiled eggs (it is better to boil them the same day to avoid keeping eggs in the fridge). If it is not possible to bring your own eggs, there is an extra fee 2 EUR / 10 eggs. Duration 1-1,5 h. Group 10-15 persons. Price 7 EUR for a person (VAT not included)*. Language Lithuanian, Russian. * Advance payment should be paid under the issued pre-invoice when educational craft activity is ordered for a group of at least 6 people. Advance payment consists of 30 percent of agreed service amount. Advance payment is not returned, if the order is cancelled or did not occur due to the fault of a customer. Advance payment must be paid not less than 3 days prior to the day of educational craft activity. |
